Jubilee grants joy

LLANDUDNO Town Council will be helping local residents celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee this summer by offering small grants to help fund street parties.

The council has agreed to allocate £2,000 worth of funding, divided equally between the town’s wards, to fund parties to mark the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s coronation over the June Bank Holiday weekend.

Llandudno Mayor Greg Robbins hoped the grants would encourage residents to celebrate the jubilee following the success of a similar scheme for last year’s Royal wedding.

“We want anybody who wishes to celebrate the Jubilee to be able to do so, and this seemed a very sensible way to allow that,” Cllr Robbins said.

“We ran a very similar thing last year with the Royal wedding.

“We had a very good uptake on it, I went along to a few of them and they were very well enjoyed.”

Llandudno Town Council will also be contributing £200 towards the costs of a special jubilee service at the town’s Holy Trinity Church, and will provide a commemorative book giving residents an opportunity to write congratulatory messages to the Queen.

“Anyone who wants to write and wish the Queen well can do so, and at the end of the celebrations we’ll parcel it up and send it to Buckingham Palace as a message from the people of Llandudno,” Cllr Robbins added.
