WARNING letters have been issued after a schoolgirl was approached by a middle-aged man who tried to get her into a van.
The white man, in his 50s, asked the Year 7 pupil at Buckley’s Elfed High School to get in the van last week.
Police are now investigating and warning letters have been sent to parents asking them to escort their children to and from school.
The man is described as being 5ft 7in tall and the van is said to be white with a black roof rack.
Mountain Lane Primary School headteacher Rob Nicholson stressed the importance of children going home straight from school.
He said: “We were contacted by the county council. This is a legitimate concern that has been reported to police.
“I decided to send a letter out to parents making them aware. It is about safeguarding pupils when they leave the school. When they are in school they are safe.”
In a letter sent to parents Mr Nicholson wrote: “A white man in his 50s tried to get the girl to go with him in his van.
“Please make it clear to your child of the importance of coming straight home from school and remind them about ‘stranger danger’.
“I would advise that your child is escorted home, especially from after school clubs, for the remainder of the half-term.
“Please report any sighting or incidents relating to this event to the police.”
A police spokesman said: “We are aware of the incident and it is being looked into.”
