Eighteen arrested in Operation Apollo

EIGHTEEN people were arrested for drug, assault and theft offences in a police swoop.


A major police impact day took place Wednesday (January 25) as part of Operation Apollo which aims to tackle crime along the Denbighshire Coast and in Abergele.


District Inspector Jason Devonport, who led the action, said: “A total of 48 officers were involved in the day’s activities – including members of the local Neighbourhood Policing Teams, CID, roads policing and members of the dog section.


“ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) was also used which resulted in two vehicles being seized and a person being arrested on suspicion of the Unauthorised Taking of a Motor Vehicle.”


Officers took to the streets from 7am in the morning until late at night, resulting in the arrests of 17 men and one woman who were taken to St Asaph CID.


DI Devonport said: “This is the first impact day I’ve held since I was recently appointed Inspector for the area and it demonstrates the positive action that we will take to tackle crime head on.”


Among those arrested was a 44-year-old man charged with theft, a 21-year-old woman charged with two counts of assault and a youth charged with a section 39 assault.


He was released on police bail pending further inquiries in relation to being arrested on suspicion of a criminal damage


Three of those arrested were released on police bail pending further inquiries while two women received a caution for possessing cannabis and no further action was taken against four of the individuals arrested.
