Greensomes win

BLUSTERY conditions welcomed Vale of Llangollen Golf Club members to last weekend’s competition.

A total of 54 pairs braved the wind for the club’s New Year American greensomes event.

On the day, a wide range of scores were returned, which reflected the tricky playing conditions.

A small group of pairs contended for third spot on 29 points, necessitating a countback to separate them, but father and son Neil and David Edwards mastered the elements best and returned a winning score of 32 points, closely followed on 31 points by Kevin Walsh and William Hill.

Result: 1, David Edwards and Neil Edwards 32; 2, Kevin Walsh and William Hill 31; 3, Stephen V Jones and Brian Griffiths 29 (back nine-21)
