FURNITURE store owners have been “amazed” after receiving more than 1,300 applications for just 16 jobs.
Sofa retailer DFS advertised the positions for its new store on Mostyn Champneys retail park in the former Halfords site late last year, in preparation for its opening on February 18.
After announcing the expansion of their services in North Wales, the sofa retailer received 1,385 applications.
Area Sales Manager at DFS, Adam Hankinson, said: “I have been amazed by both the number of applications we’ve received but also the high quality of the candidates. We’ve recruited a great bunch people and I’m really excited about creating a new local team who will open the store in just a couple of weeks."
The application process has now closed and many of the successful candidates are starting extensive training.
Llandudno Town Councillor Doreen Websell was thrilled with the store opening.
She said: “The more jobs we get in the town the better. Hopefully more stores will start opening soon too.”
But according to Cllr Websell, the large number of applications - an average of more than 85 for each position - was a cause for concern as it demonstrated the need for more jobs in town.
