LLANBERIS 1
LLANDYRNOG UNITED 0

IT wasn’t the best of starts to 2012 as far as Llandyrnog United were concerned.

Russ Pierce’s charges have strong hopes of taking this season’s Welsh Alliance League Division Two title, but they slipped up in the chase as mid-table Llanberis preserved their excellent home record with a narrow 1-0 win.

Llandyrnog started off the better side and it remained this way throughout the game with United mainly on the front foot, but they failed to capitalise on their chances.

At the other end, Llandyrnog keeper Gaz Pope had little to do and only had to make one save of note during the entire 90 minutes.

The result means that Llandyrnog remain second, two points adrift of leaders Glantraeth, but United have played two games more than their promotion rivals.

Meanwhile, top dogs Llandyrnog United Reserves have started 2012 in the same fashion that they ended last year.

The Cae Nant side saw off the challenge of Penmaenmawr 3-0 to stretch their unbeaten Reserves Combination Division run to a magnificent seven matches.

Anthony Marshall, David Davies and Chris Hardy scored.
