A BODY has been discovered in woodland at a popular beauty spot.
Emergency services were called to Alyn Waters Country Park, Llay on Saturday morning after a body was found in woods at the park.
The identity of the person who died has not been released but members of the Llay community said they believed it was a man aged between his late 20s to early 40s who is local to the Llay area.
A spokesman for North Wales Police last night confirmed one body was found in the park on Saturday but added they were not in a position to release further details about the incident.
Witnesses reported seeing several police and ambulance crews at the scene at about 10am and a covered body was seen being carried the short distance from the park to a vehicle on the main Llay New Road.
Cllr Malcolm Williams, Llay member on Wrexham Council, said: “This is extremely sad news and my sympathies go out to the person’s family at this sad time, coming so soon after Christmas and New Year.
“It is very sad this has happened, particularly in the park where a lot of people like to walk.”
Llay community councillor Terry Boland has also spoken of his sadness at the news.
He said: “I would like to express my deepest sympathies to the family of the person who died.
“This must be an extremely difficult time for them and I am very sorry to learn of what has happened.”
Residents of nearby properties off Llay New Road said they were not aware of who the person was but had seen a large number of emergency services personel attending the scene.
One resident, who did not wish to ne named, said: “We saw three police cars and two ambulances here and it is so sad to discover why they were here.”
A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed they were called to the scene.
The body was removed as junior football players were arriving for matches in the park.
