A FATHER is celebrating breaking the £33,000 mark to help his young son walk.

A campaign, led by father Andrew Telford of Old Colwyn, to raise thousands of pounds to send little AJ Tighe, six, to America for a pioneering operation has entered the new year.

Mr Telford thanked residents for their donations which will help the youngster, who was born with Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy and cannot walk without the aid of a frame.

The campaign, which began just two months ago, means that supporters are just £2,000 away from paying for the operation, but Mr Telford hopes to raise even more to pay for the trip to America and physiotherapy.

Mr Telford is also inviting Conwy residents to a mass session of hide and seek in hope of getting into the record books.

He said: “At the moment we’re recruiting volunteers. We need a location and hundreds of people to play. We can smash the current record. We hope to pull it off at the end of January.”

Mr Telford aims to raise £50,000 to pay for AJ Tighe, six, to undergo an operation in America called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy to enable him to walk unaided.
