Diver rescued from Gwynedd quarry

A DIVER has been airlifted to hospital afterafter suffering the bends at the Dorothea quarry near Caernarfon.

An onlooker at the quarry in the Nantlle Valley alerted Holyhead coastguard at around 2.30pm today (Wednesday, December 28) that the man, who was diving in a group, was in difficulties.

Llandyrnog coastguard and an RAF Valley 22 Squadron search and rescue helicopter were scrambled to help the diver, who was suffering from decompression syndrome.

RAF 22 Squadron airlifted the man to Spire Murrayfield Hospital on the Wirral for treatment in a hyperbaric chamber.
