Man found dead in Menai Strait named

A MAN who was found dead in the Menai Strait has been named.

The body of Ian Gary Owen, 44, of Llys Buddug in Caernarfon, was found in the sea near Caernarfon Castle on Sunday.

Mark Morgan knew the former Maesincla School and Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen pupil since childhood.

"He was a jack the lad when we were younger.

"Ian was very happy go lucky and liked his football - he watched Caernarfon Town and supported Man United," he said.

Gwynedd councillor Huw Edwards, who represents Cadnant ward, said: "I sympathise greatly with the family over what has happened. It's very sad."

A North Wales Police spokesman confirmed that an investigation was ongoing, but added that the inciddent was not thought to be suspicious. 

North west Wales coroner Dewi Pritchard Jones today (Wednesday, December 28) opened and adjourned an inquest into the death.
