Anglesey business scam warning

ANGLESEY businesses have been warned of publishing and advertising scams.

Anglesey Trading Standards have received a number of cold callers offering advertising in leaflets, calendars or websites.

Chief Trading Standards Officer, David Riley, said: "Don’t be caught off guard by a company cold calling out of the blue. If it sounds too good to be true, then it most probably is.”

The cold callers approach businesses, either at their premises or on the telephone, and claim to be affiliated with or approved by bodies such as the police, NHS or the government.

Mr Riley added that  traders should not to give their bank details or part with any money until they are certain they know what they are agreeing to when they receive a cold call.

“We urge traders not to be hasty, make sure they receive a written contract and take time to consider their options before agreeing to anything. If you are in any doubt or want to report such a scam; contact your local Trading Standards," he said.
