A HOLYHEAD youngster will spend Christmas at home with his family after enduring gruelling treatment for cancer.
David Farlow Williams, aged five, will open his presents on Christmas morning at home in Ffordd Hirnos, as he takes a break from undergoing immunotherapy on a neuroblastoma at a German hospital.
His grandmother Michelle Aldroyd, was delighted that doctors at the Greifswald hospital had allowed David to come home for the festive period.
“We felt it was important that David was home for Christmas, so we could share all the excitement together,” she said.
This Christmas will also be a special one for David’s brother Ryan, four, and sisters Megan, three, Margaret, six, and Melissa, seven.
“They’re loving having David back home. It’s just hard when he has to go back for treatment.
“I don’t think it will be a quiet Christmas - not with five children,” Michelle said.
Michelle explained that a stay at Ysbyty Gwynedd with an infection did little to dampen David’s excitement.
“David was always running around the wards with three other children.
“He did get fed up, though, because he just wanted to go home,” she said.
David’s ordeal began two years ago after doctors at Alder Hey hospital found a malignant tumor in his chest.
Michelle said that that family appreciated the support of residents who read about David in the Chronicle.
“Obviously, it’s a comfort to know that people do care, especially in the community,” she said.
Bone marrow tests after David complete’s his treament in Germany next year will show whether he has beaten the tumor.
Michelle and the family are keeping a positive outlook as David returns to Germany for treatment.
“David’s a fighter. He’s had two years of treatment, and he’s still fighting on,” she said.
