THE Royal Welsh Regiment has been granted the freedom of Anglesey in recognition of its service to the nation.
A full meeting of Anglesey Council in Llangefni today (Thursday, December 8)unanimously agreed to grant a motion presented by councillor Aled Morris Jones.
“The Royal Welsh, as well as the Royal Welch Fusiliers before it, has had strong links with the Island for many years, with many of our fine men and women serving in the regiment.
“The honour bestowed on the regiment today is a reflection of our recognition and appreciation of the work it carries out on behalf of the nation,” he said.
The regiment will parade through Holyhead next year to mark the honour, which was accepted by Major Owain Luke.
“The honour bestowed on the regiment will serve to strengthen our important bond and I would thank the County Council on behalf of all who serve with the Royal Welsh,” he said.
