PILES of rotting rubbish are turning one Flintshire street into a “bomb site”, say fed up residents.
Bin bags have been dumped in heaps on Earl Street in Flint near the former Raven pub because Flintshire Council wheelie bins are full to the brim.
One resident, who did not want to be named, said the rubbish was a health hazard and was becoming a haven for vermin.
“It is disgusting and it is starting to look like a bomb site,” he said.
“Some of the rubbish has been there for two weeks and I am concerned about rats and foxes.
“I saw one fox run out of the bins and right past me up the street with something in its mouth.”
Earl Street contains flats and houses and while some rubbish has been collected, dozens more bags have not.
The resident said he had reported the problem to the council who said the rubbish would be taken away.
“The communal bins are overflowing so people in the flats take their rubbish out and there is nowhere for them to put it,” he said.
“It is just not good enough and things only seem to have been like this since they started messing around with collections.”
Earlier this month the council introduced a controversial ‘managed weekly collection’ to every household in the county, excluding flats.
The new service involves a weekly collection of food waste and recyclables and a fortnightly collection of residual and green waste.
Steve Jones, head of Streetscene for Flintshire Council, said: “Officers from the council will be visiting the site.
“The discarded bin bags will be removed in the interest of public health, while an investigation takes place into the trade waste disposal issues that exist on the site.”
