Rotting rubbish turning Flintshire street into ‘bomb site’

PILES of rotting rubbish are turning one Flintshire street into a “bomb site”, say fed up residents.

Bin bags have been dumped in heaps on Earl Street in Flint near the former Raven pub because Flintshire Council wheelie bins are full to the brim.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said the rubbish was a health hazard and was becoming a haven for vermin.

“It is disgusting and it is starting to look like a bomb site,” he said.

“Some of the rubbish has been there for two weeks and I am concerned about rats and foxes.

“I saw one fox run out of the bins and right past me up the street with something in its mouth.”

Earl Street contains flats and houses and while some rubbish has been collected, dozens more bags have not.

The resident said he had reported the problem to the council who said the rubbish would be taken away.

“The communal bins are overflowing so people in the flats take their rubbish out and there is nowhere for them to put it,” he said.

“It is just not good enough and things only seem to have been like this since they started messing around with collections.”

Earlier this month the council introduced a controversial ‘managed weekly collection’ to every household in the county, excluding flats.

The new service involves a weekly collection of food waste and recyclables and a fortnightly collection of residual and green waste.

Steve Jones, head of Streetscene for Flintshire Council, said: “Officers from the council will be visiting the site.

“The discarded bin bags will be removed in the interest of public health, while an investigation takes place into the trade waste disposal issues that exist on the site.”

I dont mind wheelie bins, I would like a weekly service however not a fortnightly one, as when you miss the bin service you then have two weeks to wait (with a full bin). I am in the middle of the Flintshire home improvements as well so scaffold everywhere and the builders have my only back door key so its a nightmare atm. Once this lot have gone Ill be back to hardcore recycling so it wont be so much of an issue.

We live in Cestrian Street, and we had our wheelie bins a week after everyone else but that weeks rubbish was not picked up and the alleyway behind our house is now impassible, so i have no idea how we are supposed to put our wheelie bins out as surely the council dont expect us to wheel the bin through our newly decorate house to put them kerbside.
