ANGLESEY partygoers have been given a stark warning of the consequences of alcohol abuse during the festive season.
Anglesey Council, Communities First, North Wales Police and North Wales Fire and Rescue Service teamed recently for an Alcohol Awareness Week to drive the message home.
Anglesey’s substance misuse co-ordinator Helen Wyn Jones said that more than 40 people die as a result of alcohol in England and Wales every day.
“Although the message is a familiar one, the Community Safety Partnership want to emphasise the perils of drink driving and alcohol misuse in general.
The week kicked off in Holyhead with an anti-drink driving drive event, where members of the public drove through different scenarios using a ‘mini-cooper’ vehicle simulator.
The Island’s Youth clubs played games with ‘beer goggles’, which highlighted disorientation due to alcohol misuse.
Staff from the Embassy nightclub in Bangor prepared alcohol-free mocktails for the public at Anglesey Council’s Llangefni headquarters.
