Powell off as Rhyl pay for misses

RHYL had enough chances to win this match comfortably.
Having nicked a 3-2 win in the Welsh Cup the previous week the Lilies would have been confident of completing the double over Port.

But even though they had the lion’s share of chances they had a nervy final 10 minutes when veteran Mark Powell was red carded for a second bookable offence.

The game was a crowd pleaser from start to finish with plenty of goalmouth incidents.

Rhyl thought they were off to a flyer when a cross from Richard Harvey found Jimmy Gambino at the far post but his header hit the crossbar.

The link up play between Scott Beckett and Jason Oswell was a constant threat and the pair almost contrived a goal when Oswell chipped over the defence for Beckett whose shot went just wide.

Rhyl really turned the screw in the second half and Port had their keeper Ben Jones to thank when he made a fine save from Gareth Jones Evans pile driver.

Powell got his marching orders on 81 minutes when he argued with the referee but Rhyl kept creating chances and Port did well to keep this entertaining match goalless.

Rhyl are at home to Ruthin on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm.
