THE SEAGULLS return to a top-10 space in the Blue Square Conference League thanks to a 2-1 victory against Gainsborough Trinity FC at the Red Lion Foods Stadium.

Despite facing a difficult game in the first half, with Gainsborough's Lewis McMahon, Shane Clarke and Leon Mettam forming to take a successful volley past Chris Sanna, as well as a series of attacks which were well defended by Bay FC's goalkeeper, the Bay came into the second half with renewed confidence.

Just four minutes in to the second half, Danny Lloyd and Lee McEvilly equalised for the Bay with a header past Dimitar Evtimov. The Seagulls put a second goal through 72 minutes later, thanks to a joint effort from Mike Lea and Karl Noon.

Manager Jon Newby said: "It was a difficult first half, Gainsborough are a good side and they could have gone further, but we played very well in the second half."

This was Newby's first home game as manager, and he added: "It's obviously very pleasing to get a win - it takes a bit of the pressure off."

Newby also announced the appointment of former Everton and Tranmere striker Stuart Barlow as his assistant manager.

"Just to bring his experience in playing and coaching at a higher level, he'll automatically command the respect of the team."

The Bay go on to play current leaders Hyde FC away on Saturday November 19.
Newby added: "They're top of the league, and it's going to be a really tough game, but with the last two results we've had, we going into it with confidence."
