A CRASH which left a a car overturned on a pedestrian crossing in Rhyl has sparked calls for a safety review.
The accident happened at about 4.30pm on Friday on the crossing in Rhuddlan Road, Rhyl near Dewi Sant school.
The crossing was put in place about a year ago despite warnings from local people that it would cause accidents.
Cllr Jeanette Chamberlain Jones said residents near the school objected to the crossing because it would create a driving hazard on a very busy main road into Rhyl.
She said: “The car landed right in the middle of the school crossing: I dread to think what would have happened if there had been children or pedestrians waiting to cross.”
Cllr Chamberlain-Jones said the crossing was “extremely dangerous” and feared it was only a matter of time before someone was seriously injured or killed.
She said: “I am calling on Denbighshire County Council to urgently revisit this crossing point and address the issues of safety. I will not rest until this crossing is removed and replaced with something that is safer for all road users and pedestrians.”
Chris Ruane, MP for the Vale of Clwyd, is also concerned the traffic calming measures may have made the road more hazardous.
He backed the call for a review adding and said it was “very fortunate the schools were off for half term as it is a very busy school and a busy main road.”
A Denbighshire Council spokeswoman said they were reviewing the layout.
