AN ANGLESEY teenager has been crowned UK Champion in the recent Horse of the Year Show in Birmingham.

Christie Pritchard, of Gwalchmai, took top spot in the under 16 category, with her horse Bear Me in Mind.

In a dramatic final jump-off at the NEC arena, Christie managed to win by a margin of just 0.14 seconds.

She said: “I won in my category in 2009, but it was a surprise to win again this year because I had to wait till the end of the jump-off to find out.”

The Ysgol Bodedern pupil has previously been part of a team representing the United Kingdom that won the Gold medal at the European Championships, held in Germany.

Christie puts her success down to the hard work she and her family have put in over the years.

She said: “We tend to the horses every day, which can be very hard work and does take some dedication. My family are all very supportive, and my dad is very good at motivating me."

Christie also said she was keen to attend equine college in the future.

“After finishing school, I'd like to go to Hartpury college. I already know some of the staff, and it would be great to link up with them again.”
