A WELSH footballing hero opened a training centre for budding stars of the future on Anglesey.
Former Everton keeper Neville Southall yesterday opened the £40,000 Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) in Amlwch Leisure Centre, as part of a two day visit by the club’s youth coaches.
Amlwch Rural ward councillor Gareth Winston Roberts thanked Anglesey LNG for part funding the facility.
Amlwch Town Junior Football Club invited Everton coaches to run a two day soccer camp to mark the opening.
Around 150 boys and girls, aged seven to 16, took part in sessions on the refurbished outdoor five-a-side pitch, fitted with the latest synthetic surface technology Tiger Turf Soccer Real 60.
Anglesey councillor Dylan Jones, of Porth Amlwch ward, said that the new facility would benefit both youngsters and the wider community.
“I'm sure that the new synthetic football pitch, in particular, will prove popular with local youngsters.”
