LITTLE David Farlow-Williams, five, has overcome many trials in his short life after he was diagnosed with cancer.

However, the future is looking a little brighter for David as he prepares to return to his home at Ffordd Hirnos, Holyhead, on Monday for a break in his treatment in Germany.

His aunt Melanie Farlow, 52, said that the youngster, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma two years ago, was looking forward to his return.

“He’s saying all the time that he wants to come home,” she said.

Neuroblastoma is a malignant tumour that develops from children’s nerve tissue.

David’s family realised that something was wrong when he started dragging his right leg, and had trouble sitting up or bending down.

David, who lives with his grandmother Michelle Oldroyd, was first diagnosed with the condition after doctors discovered a melon-sized tumour in his chest.

Melanie told of the family’s shock at the diagnosis.

“We were very worried, because the outlook wasn’t very good for children with stage four neuroblastoma,” she said.

David has endured two years of radiotherapy and chemotheraphy at Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool.

“David’s coped very well. He’s not complained at all,” Melanie said.

“He’s just taken it all in his stride - he’s gone to hospital, come back again on goton with normality.”

The youngster has been in Greifswald on the Baltic coast for two weeks, and will be back home for another three.

He will return for another two weeks’ treatment, then return home, before heading back to Germany for the final round of treatment.

“He’s responsing all right, but it’s a very painful treament,” Melanie added.

David’s ordeal has been stressful for his family, bue Melanie said that relatives have rallied round to support him.

“We have to remain positive. You do’t let it get you down- you can’t,” Melanie said.
“You have your moments, but you don’t let David see it.”

David will go into remission if the treatment is successful.

Melanie added: “We’ve got to hope the treatment works - that’s all you can hope for really.”
