Safety fears over repairs to path

A FORMER borough councillor fears for the safety of pedestrians while repairs are made to a path on a main road.

David Banes, 79, who once represented Llanfairfechan on the former Conwy Borough Council, has raised safety issues regarding work to a pavement stretching along Conway Road up to the junction with Victoria Drive, Llandudno Junction.

The work is part of Conwy County Borough Council’s Llandudno Junction Regeneration Programme, the first phase of which started in September.

Mr Banes, who uses a mobility scooter, walks his dog in the nearby park but the access has been closed while the work goes on.

He said: “Mothers with prams can’t get to the park with their kids. There’s no other entrance to the park for a scooter or a pram.

“I saw a gentleman having to walk against the traffic in the road. It’s a death waiting to happen in my opinion. I can’t understand why no-one’s doing anything about it. It’s an accident waiting to happen. I’m frightened for the mothers and the kids.”

Peter Jones-Hughes, Principal Conservation Officer for Conwy, said the council expected the work to be completed by the end of the week, weather permitting.

He said: “We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused by the work and hope that the final result will make a significant difference to people who use the area regularly, through improvements to the pavement surface, access and lighting, and installation of dropped kerbs and tactile paving.”
