A FAMILY had a lucky escape when intense heat from two cars deliberately torched by yobs on the front drive spread to their house.
Police are now hunting those responsible for the double arson attack in Rose Grove, Wrexham early yesterday morning.
Firefighters from the Wrexham station were called to the scene of the blaze just before 2am.
Two cars parked outside the house – a Vauxhall Astra and a Vauxhall Corsa – went up in flames and were totally destroyed.
Heat from the two blazing vehicles was so intense that it shattered the downstairs window of the house just a few feet away.
The family, who did not want to talk about the incident yesterday, were unhurt.
But a neighbour who saw the drama unfold says they had a lucky escape.
Paul Beattie, who lives just a few doors away, said: “It was just before 2am and I was woken up by something happening outside our house.
“I looked out of the bedroom window and could see flames reflected on the walls of the house across the road.
“I then realised something was happening at the house a couple of doors away.
“At first I thought the house itself was on fire and then I could see it was the two cars parked in front.
“The heat from the cars cracked their window, so they were lucky the whole house didn’t go on fire.”
A spokeswoman for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed a crew was called to the incident at 1.49am yesterday and two vehicles had been badly damaged along with a house window.
Inspector Paul Jones, of North Wales Police, said: “We are treating this as arson and conducting a full investigation.
“We are also providing support to the family.”
