The current economic climate has led to saving money being more important than ever.  Everyone is looking for ways that they can cut back on their spending and I thought it would be a good idea to look at how technology has helped us save money over the last 10 years.

Shopping and voucher websites

Shopping and voucher websites are becoming more and more popular on the internet, with millions of people looking for their next bargain online.

You can use these sites to search for particular products to see if there are any discounts available and where the best place is to purchase the product.

They are also great if you’re looking for a particular type of product, e.g. a new TV, as many of the sites will search the marketplace as a whole to find the best product for you.

Online banking

When online banking first surfaced, many people didn’t like the sound of it as there were worries about security but once those fears were eased the use of online banking has changed the banking world forever.

Online banking is so much more advanced than it used to be, we can now view various accounts at once and we can transfer money between these accounts instantly.

You can view any standing orders or direct debits you have, and with many banks you can instantly send money to a recipient around the country, and if you want to send money to and from the UK you can do so via international money transfers .

Budgeting and saving money on the move

The rise of the smart phone and tablet including the latest Android models, iPhone and iPad have enabled to us to save money on the move thanks to the release of money saving applications.

Money saving applications have become very popular; there are applications that help you remember when your bills are due, there are those that help you budget and there are applications that help you when you’re on the move, e.g. where to find the best price petrol where you are.

Some of the apps that are aimed at people who want to save money are available for free, others are priced at a few pounds, but for a lot of them the money saving potential of the app can outweigh the cost.

Price comparison websites

Shopping for things like car insurance or credit cards used to be quite a difficult and time consuming task, but price comparison sites like MoneySupermarket have changed that forever.

Using a price comparison site you can quickly and easily compare prices of the products you want and they will do all of the hard work for you, they can save you a lot of time, effort and more importantly money.

You can compare all sorts of products using price comparison sites like MoneySupermarket, from insurance and utilities to financial products such as credit cards and current accounts.
