AMBITIOUS plans have been unveiled for a "world class" dementia care centre on the outskirts of Caernarfon.
Pendine Park co-owner Mario Kreft said that the £5 million centre in Caernarfon will create more than 100 new jobs.
"Our vision for Canolfan Gofal Bryn Seiont is to provide a world class community based resource for people with dementia who need high-dependancy care not currently available in the area,” he said.
A planning application to Gwynedd Council details Mr Kreft and his wife Gill’s vision for the purpose-built centre on the site of the former Ysbyty Bryn Seiont community hospital in Pant Road.
Canolfan Gofal Bryn Seiont would offer 24/7 services, which wouls include respite and day services.
The couple run six care homes, a domiciliary care company and a teaching care centre in the Wrexham area.
The new centre will be based on Pendine Park’s Bodlondeb unit in Wrexham, and Mr Kreft said that the facility would be linked to the company’s teaching care centre.
Pendine Park is working closely leading dementia experts Professor Bob Woods of Bangor University, and the Alzheimer's Society.
Mr Kreft said that the company had consulted with the council, social services and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, and that a consultation event would be held in November.
Mrs Kreft added: "We see Canolfan Gofal Bryn Seiont as a really exciting opportunity to provide some new, innovative services and to work closely with the statutory authorities to make sure that those services meet the needs and the likely future needs of the people of Gwynedd."
