CONSTRUCTION work on a school for disabled children will start next July.
Ysgol y Gogarth, Craig y Don, will be completely revamped in a £22 million rebuild of the school site, which will see much of the existing sixties complex demolished.
The new school will cater for about 170 pupils and be made up of new sports facilities, a hydrotherapy pool and new teaching areas and classrooms.
The final phase of the project will include improved vehicle access and parking, new grassed and multi-use sports pitches together with new habitat and recreation areas.
The timeline of the project had been under threat in March when the Welsh Government had to defer funding to the project due to cuts in its capital budget.
But Conwy County Borough Council's funding was confirmed as planned, meaning the work could continue on schedule.
The school received more than £15 million from the Welsh Government and more than £6 million from the council. The cash injection for the school was the largest investment made by the government in North Wales.
Jonathan Morgan, head teacher at Ysgol y Gogarth, said he was excited by the project.
He said: "There was some concern about which year would it come in, but it made no difference to us because we had time to get ready.
"The only building that'll be left on site will be the existing residential block. There'll be a demolition of everything else on site. It's quite exciting, really. Contractors will be coming on to the site in July, which will be very good to see."
Geraint James, Head of Education Services for Conwy County Borough Council, said: “We expect to go out to tender in the new year with a view to being on site in summer 2012, subject to the relevant permissions. Over the coming months we will be consulting parents, interested parties and the public about the project.”
