David Snowdon Jones

SIXTEEN months after a knee operation, an 81 year-old man will be tackling Snowdon again... and this time he wants you to join him.

David Snowdon-Jones has raised thousands of pounds for charity, resulting in more than 10 major walks as well as a special friendship with the late Roy Castle.

Mr Jones, who has run the Cherry Pie Inn at Melin-y-Wern for the past 24 years, has raised money for many different causes over the years, but mainly for The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

In 1990 the Lung Cancer Fund was founded to raise awareness; Roy Castle spent much of the last year of his life helping to raise millions of pounds for the appeal.

After his death his heroic contribution was recognised by changing the name of the charity to The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

Since Roy's death, Mr Jones has continued to raise money for this foundation, his trip up Snowdon will be in aid of the charity.

Ever since his operation in May 2010, Mr Jones has been eagerly awaiting the chance to walk Mount Snowdon again.

He has been building up to the walk with trips up Moel Famau and the surrounding hills.

The walk will be held on Saturday, October 1, meeting at 8.30am for a 9.30am start.

The walk will be on the Llanberis Path (five miles to the summit of Mount Snowdon 1,085m high) - the highest point in England and Wales.

Mr Jones will be walking with family and friends and has invited anyone who would like to join him in this his 81st year.

For further information or to get involved contact Simon Ellis at The Cherry Pie Inn on 01352 741279.
