North Wales Fire and Rescue Service senior operations manager Gary Brandrick said that the course

“This course has been developed specifically with flood rescues in mind. It is likely that the impact of climate change will mean Wales will see increased flooding and we have to come to terms with this reality,” he said.

Mr Brandrick said that communities across Wales will benefit with one high standard of response throughout the whole country.

“One in six properties in England and Wales is at risk of flooding - it is only by undertaking thorough training and working together that we will be ready to protect people's lives, homes and livelihoods when flooding hits,” he said.

The course, which aims to develop partnerships between fire crews across the country, was devised by the service and is monitored by the RNLI.

Mr Brandrick added: “Training in this way underpins effective working relations which are essential in the event of an incident occurring.”
