Mochdre 199-5
Menai Bridge 200-7
Menai Bridge won by three wickets

MOCHDRE’S superb season ended in defeat after a good contest with Menai Bridge.

Will Evans gunned 109 runs and Mark Williams added 47 as Mochdre posted 199 for five.

Solid scoring saw Bridge beat their total in the 33rd over, but Bridge were deducted fifteen points for fielding an ineligible player, as Mochdre took 19 points from the clash. Aaron Fishwick took three wickets and Gareth and Alex Davies both claimed two.

Mochdre Seconds meanwhile suffered promotion hearbreak again after missing out on promotion for a third sucessive season.

Llanrwst’s reserve side picked up a 10-0 victory over Corus to snatch second palce from Mochdre by just two points, despite their weekend win over Castell Alun.

A strong start saw Mochdre take early wickets, but Castell recovered to finish on a credible 162 for five.

Richard Totton took a couple of wickets along with Gareth Goodson, Aamer Sardar and Ben Ashworth, whilst skipper Gareth Colman also made two superb catches.

Goodson’s departure looked ominous with the score on 19 for two, but Ross Stevens, who top scored on 105, and Peter Williams paired up to score 132, before captain Colman fittingly finished the season with the winning runs.

The agonising final table means Mochdre’s Seconds have missed promotion by two points or less in each of the last three seasons, and also denied Mochdre Thirds from being promoted after they finished second in Division Five.

Opponents Rhewl looked to have denied the Thirds a shot at the bonus points needed for a top two finish after reaching 140 in 43 overs, with highlights including a superb run-out combination between Matt humphreys in the field and Alastair Paterson, who also claimed a wicket courtesy of Scott Roberts’ catch.

Facing a run rate of around three an over, big hitters Dan Parry and Matt Humphreys met the challenge head on with unebaten scores of 58 and 62 respectively to secure the win in the 32nd over.Mochdre 199-5
