REVIEW: Insidious on DVD

CREAKING house? Check. Creepy old ghostly woman? Check. Sinister score? Check.

Insidious gives the well-worn haunted house premise a spine-tingling shake-up in this classic-toned horror.

Director James Wan dolls out the boo-scares and jumps, with enough unquestionably creepy moments (misbehaving baby-monitors and demonic clawed creatures a particular highlight) to keep on edge.

But despite shunning docu-style structure in favour of a vintage aesthetic (akin to 2009's Drag Me To Hell without the chuckles), once the mystery of the supernatural elements are disclosed, it soon loses its chills.

Extras unavailable at time of going to print.
