A 47 year old man has died after collapsing near the summit of Snowdon.

The tragedy occurred on the Watkin Path at about 1.20pm on Saturday, August 13, just below the mountain’s 3,560ft summit.

The man was airlifted off the mountain by the crew of a Sea King helicopter from RAF Valley, but despite efforts to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead at Ysbyty Gwynedd.

It is not known whether the man was from the local area and the cause of death remains uncertain, although it is believed he may have suffered a heart attack.
