A VILLAGE is rallying round to show its support for a man hospitalised following a vicious gang attack.

Members of the Bagillt community have been left shocked after resident John Morris was assaulted on Wern Avenue, Bagillt, on Monday, August 2.

As residents come to terms with the shock of the attack happening in their village, they have joined together and are helping raise funds to support Mr Morris with a fundraising drive.

Mr Morris, who is believed to be in his late 30s, was due to return home from Glan Clwyd Hospital last night, a week after he sustained facial injuries in the attack.

Several pubs and businesses, including The Old Ship Inn, are holding fundraising activities to help support Mr Morris, which has so far raised more than £100.

Landlord Rob Davies said: “Many people have come forward and wanted to show their support for John.

“It has shocked everybody. He is such a lovely man and a very polite person.

“The amount of people that have expressed their wishes and want to support him is great.”

Bagillt Bistre East Cllr Norma Jones said she was delighted with the fundraising efforts to support Mr Morris.

She said: “It has been very encouraging to see so many people doing their bit and wanting to raise funds.

“This money should hopefully help him and there are so many people in Bagillt who want to help. The village has really come together.”

Cllr Jones said she was very concerned at the incident occurring in the village.

She added: “We can’t have a gang going around and doing this. There is a lot of anger such a thing could happen in our village.

“I very much hope we don’t see an incident like this again.”

Fellow Bagillt councillor Mike Reece said he had seen fundraising activities going on at The Old Ship Inn, The Feathers Inn, The Stag Inn and Blossoms.

Praising the community spirit, he said: “The residents were not shy.

“They have been putting money in the collection jugs.”

Four people were arrested in connection with the incident.

They have been released on bail pending further inquiries.
