A YOUTH hub is at the centre of concerns about anti-social behaviour and safety.
Residents and business owners on Elwy Street in Rhyl are say the behaviour of youngsters congregating around the Rhyl Youth Action Group centre may lead to a road accident.
Colin Savory, who runs Medeor House bed and breakfast near the RYAG building, said: “This has been a bit of a disaster for the area.
“These are not little kids, they are aged up to 17. Smoking, spitting, drinking, you name it, they do it. They just hang around outside my place, and my wall and yard have become a play area for them.
“It’s stopped my business in its tracks. They stand in front of the traffic and think they are being clever.”
Another resident, who did not want to be named, said that antisocial behaviour until 9pm was so bad she could not hear her television.
She said: “The teenagers are smoking, swearing, arguing, skateboarding, bike riding in between the cars and in the road. There is going to be a really bad accident with the children playing chicken in the road.
Chris Ruane, MP for the Vale of Clwyd whose office is close to Elwy Street, said he was looking into the matter after being contacted by a number of residents.
Wynne Randles, Youth Cafe Manager, said: “The centre does attract young people of all types, the majority of which are model citizens. The minority of young people who are or have been engaged in anti-social behaviour or other criminal activity are excluded for a set period and then RYAG try to re-engage them.”
