HORIZON nuclear power, the energy giant behind the development of the proposed Wylfa B nuclear site on Anglesey, has announced a number of public consultation sessions that will take place across the Island.
The first session was held on Monday at the Bull Hotel in Llangefni. Sessions will also be held on August 22 in the Cemaes Village Hall and on September 19 at the Victoria Hotel, Menai Bridge.
Both sessions begin at noon and run til 8pm. The open surgeries will allow residents to ask questions about the site’s development.
Meanwhile, the company last week was forced to deny reports in a German newspaper that suggested they could struggle to raise enough investment to proceed with plans to build several new nuclear plants across the UK, including the site at Wylfa B.
The claims were made in the newspaper the Sueddeutsch Zeitung. However, Horizon and its parent companies, RWE NPower and EON, said there was no foundation to the story.
The company has also welcomed the government’s publication of a paper on electricity market reform, which is seen as further support for the nuclear power programme.
Alan Raymant, chief operating officer of Horizon Nuclear Power, said: “Nuclear power is one of the cheapest forms of low carbon energy because once a station is built it produces a great deal of power, very reliably, for up to 60 years, with low running costs.
“We need an electricity market that makes investment attractive for all forms of low carbon energy-nuclear, renewables and cleaner fossil fuels.
“In the long run that will help keep customer bills and emissions down and bring jobs and investment to the region.”
