PLAYERS and officials from Bangor City Football Club gathered at Penrhyn Hall on Monday to be honoured by City of Bangor Council in a civic reception.
The council presented officials with a commemorative slate plaque in recognition of the club’s achievements, including their triumph in last season’s Welsh Premier League, and their three consecutive Welsh cup wins in 2008, 2009, and 2010.
Paying tribute to the club’s outstanding success, long-time supporters deputy mayor Cllr Bryn Hughes and Cllr Eddie Dogan also recalled the club’s rich heritage and past glories.
Bangor City chairman Dilwyn Jones and President Gwyn Pierce Owen both acknowledged the spirit of co-operation which now existed between the club and the council, and praised the spirit of togetherness existing within the football club and with the wider community.
Spokesman for Bangor City, Huw Pritchard, said: “The club welcomes the support they have received from Bangor City Council and the slate plaque is an appreciation and recognition of achievement.”
Bangor City Council clerk Gwyn Hughes said that the reception was a way of paying tribute to the hard work and commitment of the team, the management, the directors and the supporters of the club.
He said: “It is a sign that the citizens of Bangor appreciate the team. They have promoted Bangor by their achievements on and off the field.”
