LOVE, ambition and power are brought to Rhyl this week as Andrew Lloyd Webber's acclaimed Evita is performed live at the Pavilion Theatre.
The Pioneer's Kerry Roberts enjoyed an opening night performance of the critically celebrated show to experience the beloved musical himself.
The first night performance of Evita at Rhyl's Pavilion Theatre was not without it's glitches.
The show was delayed for fifteen minutes 'for technical reasons', but, as the saying goes - good things come to those who wait.
Opening to the dramatic scene of Eva Peron lying in state as Che takes us back over her life for a romp through recent South American history, an all-singing, all-dancing cast pull out all the stops as we see a very flirty Maria Eva Duarte begin her transformation from poor wannabe actress to the First Lady of Argentina.
The outstanding performance of the first act comes as Peron's mistress, played by Sasha Ransley, sings 'Another Suitcase in Another Hall'.
Beautiful.
But the second act picks up the pace, with a stunning performance of 'Don't Cry for me Argentina' by Abigale Jaye in the lead role well worth the admission fee alone.
The sets are impressive and it is hard to fault the performances.
Certainly knocking the spots off the Hollywood film, a standing ovation at the climactic ending was well deserved.
This show comes highly recommended, so don't let it pass you by.
My only criticism is that the theatre was far too warm, so perhaps take a fan, it may enhance your experience!
