A BIODIVERSITY action plan in Deganwy is causing frustration amongst residents.
Vikki Stanley, 53, of Station Road, said that the biodiversity area on Deganwy promenade green is making the area “unsightly”.
She said: “It was designated a biodiversity area around three years ago. There are no signs around the green yet to tell us this.
“There is dog mess on it and stones all over it. It needs flattening out and restoring to a playing field and football pitch. It looks like shrubland.”
Ms Stanley feared the state of the area could also effect tourism in the village.
She added: “People can cycle along the prom and suddenly they see this. It doesn’t encourage anyone to stay and have a picnic.”
According to Ms Stanley, a meeting was held involving the Deganwy Prom committee to discuss areas of the grass to be cut back.
But Deganwy councillor, Jason Weyman, said the biodiversity plan is a national policy which takes precedent.
He said: “It is extremely unlikely that the biodiversity plan will be taken off the area.
“With Prom Day on the green, we compromised and had part of the centre mowed for the arena.”
Cllr Weyman also said that restrictions meant some of the heavier vehicles will not be able to go on the site.
