A DELIVERY of 500 tonnes of sand to a Rhos on Sea beach is already proving a boost for businesses.

The massive quantity of sand was spread on the harbour beach in a bid to make the area more attractive following years of tidal erosion and neglect.

The delivery has already given the area what some councillors are calling “a tropical feel”, with tourists flocking to the beach during the recent Bank Holiday weekends.

Cllr Roger Parry, who launched the initiative after discussions with the environmental services, said: “All it needs now are donkey rides and palm trees!
“Whatever other adornments it may lack, the new beach should attract more visitors and become a mecca for families and children.”

According to Cllr Parry, more sand will be coming in the near future.

New Rhos on Sea clothing and water sport equipment shop The Sunset Club on Penrhyn Avenue relocated from Conwy town to be near the sea, and have been overwhelmed by the beach's popularity.

Manager Diane Howard said: “We realised we needed to be by the beach. In Rho s on Sea with the new sand on the beach er it has blown (Conwy) out of the water."
