The tablet marketplace is becoming increasingly crowded in 2011, but few devices have accumulated as much interest as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
The first Samsung Galaxy Tab has sold well but its successor offers an even broader appeal, armed with Google’s Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) operating system, Adobe Flash Player and a 10.1” display.
Samsung’s first tablet uses the popular Android 2.2 operating system, but the Galaxy Tab 10.1 should run even smoother on the new Honeycomb platform, which has been optimised for tablets.
The original Samsung Galaxy Tab has a 7” screen, so it’s easy to keep in your jacket pocket and whip out to watch YouTube or make a video call. In contrast, the new Galaxy Tab will have a 10.1” screen, perfect for watching HD video, but will weigh in at just 599g.
Powered by a 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor, the new Galaxy Tab will be able to comfortably run Google Mobile Services.
The Google Maps app will help you find your way around, while the Books app will put the choice of more than three million titles in your hands.
Both a 16GB and 32GB versions of the new Galaxy Tab are expected to be released, so you will have plenty of space to store your movies, pictures and documents.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be capable of recording HD video, while you can use its 8MP rear-facing and 2MP front-facing cameras to take snaps to show off on its 1280 x 800 pixel display.
Judging by its impressive spec and sleek appearance, it seems the next incarnation of the Samsung Galaxy Tab could exceed the high standards set by the first tablet in the series.
