FOLK doused in ambient rock then squeezed through an electronic mangle - they may be hard to pigeon-hole, but celebrated North Wales band The Reads are ready to storm CD collections around the world with their debut album, which will be officially launched this week.
Made up of Marcel Delrue, Jamie Russell, Stuart Bennett, Clare Goddard and Matty Goddard - who are spread throughout North Wales - the hard-gigging band have been slaving away on Stories From The Border: a 12 track album offering a diverse mix of genre twisting tunes.
Bassist Clare confirmed the band were thrilled with the finished results.
"We'd say it was fairly eclectic mix of songs," she said. "There's an electronic dance 'vibe' to 12 Lines of Life and Good Omens, a little bit of melancholy with AMB and some nice atmospheric soundscapes with Chunky Truffle, Nothing Bound and The Rock.
"We even get our funk on with Broken Backs which for a band that never used to stand up is a big step forward!"
Mastered by Frank Arkwright (who has worked with such bands as Arcade Fire, The Smiths and Gomez over his career), the release will be launched in style on Saturday, March 26 at 8pm in Telfords in Chester, where the audience will be treated to a live performance (and possible giveaways).
The eagerly anticipated release comes after their initial four track EP, which The Entertainer described back in 2008 as appealing to "a broad range of tastes from the electonica of Union of Knives and Looper to the straight folk of Uncle Bob".
