ANGLESEY residents have been warned to be on their guard after a spate of burglaries on the island.

Inspector Gareth Evans said that there had been three incidents in the Holyhead area over the last three days where offenders had gained entry through insecure windows or doors.

"I really want to warn residents again, that although it is very tempting in the summer months to leave doors and windows open this could be seen as an open invitation by opportune thieves,” he said.

He added that officers recently charged a man with a number of burglaries and other offences in the Cemaes Bay area.

Inspector Evans appealed for anyone who sees anything suspicious to contact and urged residents to take simple steps to deter thieves.

He said: “When you are out of the house ensure that all windows and doors are closed and that your doors are locked even if you are only out for a short time.

“Even when you are at home, it is advisable to keep doors locked.”

Inspector Evans advised residents not to leave downstairs windows open at night and if you want your upstairs windows open only open them as far as any security devices fitted will allow.
