SCHOOLS across Anglesey and Gwynedd celebrated another successful year of results.
99.5 per cent of Gwynedd pupils achieved passing (A* - G) while Anglesey schools achieved a 99 per cent pass rate.
Both results were higher than the national pass rate of 98.7 per cent.
Anglesey Council’s director of education Richard Parry Jones said: ”The percentage and reflects the emphasis placed in our schools on providing the necessary support and encouragement to ensure the success of every individual pupil.”
70.5 per cent of Gwynedd pupils gained A* - C grades while 64.9 per cent of Anglesey pupils achieved the same grades.
Gwynedd Council's Head of Education Dewi R Jones added: “The results for Gwynedd schools are very good again this year and the pupils are to be warmly congratulated for their hard work and dedication.”
20.1 per cent of pupils in Gwynedd and 18.2 per cent in Anglesey gained A* grades.
Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen, Caernarfon pupils celebrated an excellent year of results.
Elin Mair Morgan gained nine A* grades and two As while Sara Pennant Jones received six A* grades and five As.
Headteacher Neil Foden said that Ysgol Friars in Bangor celebrated one of its best ever years of results.
“These results, along with our excellent A level results from last week, are a tribute to the hard work of the pupils and the high quality teaching they receive.”
Luke Budesha, of Caernarfon, achieved seven A* grades, four As and one B. Charlotte Williams, of Bangor, received six A*s, four As, one B and one C.
Ysgol Gyfun Llangefni headteacher Haydn Davies said that pupils had received the best results for five years with a high percentage of A* s and 20 more pupils than usual to return to the sixth form.
Pupils who achieved 10-11 A* grades included Liam Ashurst, Olivia and Sophie Collyer, Anna Davies and Lowri Davies.
Anglesey AM Ieuan Wyn Jones congratulated the island’s youngsters on their results.
He added: “Their success is a reflection of their hard work over the years as well as the hard work and support of their teachers and parents.
“I wish them all the best in any plans they have for the future.”
