A HISTORY student at Bangor University has become the latest champion of a popular competition on one of the UK’s biggest radio shows.
Laura Garside, 19, originally from Derbyshire, was the winner of the guessing game “Oh, What’s Occurring?” on Monday’s Scott Mills show on Radio 1.
The game, in which contestants compete to guess the nearest answer to three questions, has become a favourite with fans of the show.
“It was surreal at first talking to Scott Mills, but it was cool and a really good experience.” Laura said.
“I always listen to the show and just applied online, I didn’t think much of it and did it for a laugh, and got a call in the morning saying I’m going to be on it!”
The competition takes place every weekday on the show, with Laura having defended her crown for two days at the time of going to press.
The history student was left a little embarrassed, however, after listing being able to fit her fist in her mouth as her party trick in her competition application.
“I kind of regret putting that on the form now.” she joked.
“It was surreal talking to Scott on the radio with my fist in my mouth!”
Laura also appealed on air to Mills for tickets to the Radio 1 One Big Weekend, which comes to Bangor on May 22 and 23, but was unsuccessfull.
A draw for the tickets is due to take place some time in April, with 10,000 pairs of free tickets for each of day of the festival set to be handed out to lucky lottery winners.
Pixie Lott has been scheduled to perform, and will be joined over the coming weeks by a host of stars from the world of pop, after the festival was launched on the Chris Moyles show live from the Faenol estate two weeks ago.
You can listen to Laura defend her title on the Scott Mills show, weekdays 4pm - 7pm on Radio 1.
