A BANGOR teenager could be confined to a wheelchair for two years after he was hit by a car.
Gavin Wyn Parry, aged 15, of Maesgeirchen, has had nine operations on his legs at Alder Hey Hospital after he was struck by a vehicle in Talybont in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
His mother Carol, 45, said that Gavin would require physiotherapy and further treatment on his left leg, which was shattered by the collision.
She said: “I’m so proud of him. He’s a gutsy lad and he won’t give up - I won’t let him.
“I’ll push him all the way.”
Doctors placed a circular fixator on Gavin’s right leg to help him put weight on it.
The Ysgol Bryn Llwyd was a keen rugby player before the incident, and regularly used to go the gym with friends.
Carol hoped that Gavin could come home in a fortnight before another operation on his leg.
She added that she had often spent the night with Gavin, who suffered flashbacks of the incident.
Carol said: “No one wants to see someone in pain like that, not least your son.
“I have to be strong for him.”
Doctors at Alder Hey believe that it will take up to two years for Gavin to walk again, but Carol is optimistic about the future.
She said: “He’s got a positive frame of mind. He knows that he will have to put the work in and get though the pain.
“He knows the road is long, but he’s not going to give up.”
