AT least 30 jobs are set to go at a biotech site in Llanberis.

Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics employees were told about the redundancies earlier this month and a formal 30 day consultation process in now underway.

A spokesman for Siemens said the company remained committed to operations at the Llanberis site, which employs close to 500 workers, and hoped there would be no compulsory lay offs.

“As part of its long-term strategy to further position itself for sustainable, healthy growth, Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics announced on January 18 a 6.5 per cent planned reduction in workforce impacting employees at the Llanberis facility, “ the spokesman said.

“Every attempt will be made to make these changes through voluntary redundancies and to redeploy roles wherever possible.

“We will consult fully with employees and representatives and will work closely with all employees affected to achieve a positive outcome.

“Siemens Healthcare is a highly successful business and remains committed to the UK and to the Llanberis facility.”

The spokesman added the move was part of a global reduction of Siemen’s workforce in response to the difficult economic climate.
