DON the stetsons and strap on the spurs, a new series of dedicated country music nights are riding in to Old Colwyn.

Top British Country bands have been booked to appear regularly over the coming months at the Marine Hotel in Old Colwyn thanks to local taxi driver Dave Neson.

Dave has been a fan of the genre since the mid 1960s and spent ten years producing and presenting a Country Music radio show for Radio 210 in Reading.
Here he played the best in country music and interviewed many of the leading stars including Johnny Cash, Tammy Wynette, Garth Brooks and many others.

After moving to North Wales in the nineties he missed the live country music scene, so has taken the matter into his own hands by setting up The Old Ranch Country Music Club.

Some of the most respected bands in the country field have been secured to perform, with some travelling from the far south of England to be involved.

“It’s all about having fun,” said Dave. “The best performances I have ever seen are those where the bands are having a great time. In that atmosphere, the audience always have a great time too. To generate that kind of atmosphere all the bands have been told to play their own favourite music. Not to come along with concerns about “should we play this or should we not play that?”, just feel free to do their own thing and enjoy playing for people who enjoy good music.”

Fans will be treated to some of the UK’s leading live country bands and not a backing track in sight. Line dancing however will not be allowed, as the emphasis is on great live country music.

Already booked to appear are Roger Humphries & Alive ‘n’ Pickin’ on March 26, Settlers Creek on April 9, Buchanan on April 30, West Virginia on May 14, The Hanks on May 28, and Kay D & The Redneck Rodeo Band on June 11.
