A WORLD-renowned harpist will open Bangor’s annual celebration of contemporary music.
Catrin Finch will perform at Bangor New Music Festival at Powis Hall on March 9, and the event’s director Guto Puw was hugely excited about the “groundbreaking” programme.
“I feel privileged to be involved in a festival offering such a variety of performances and esteemed artists, and this year the scope of the festival has been greatly enhanced by a substantial increase in Arts Council support.
“ The festival aims to promote contemporary music among school children, but this year especially I think we've really excelled, with over 20 workshops for pupils across North Wales and many of this year's concerts will feature works by young artists.”
Catrin and her band will perform pieces to evoke images of ancient mythology at the concert, with a master class and an evening concert on March 10 led by Finch, featuring works Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias pupils.
Other highlights include Welsh poet Eurig Salisbury percussionist Dewi Ellis Jones lading youngsters in verse and song at Penrallt Chapel on March 11, and a performance from Bangor New Music Ensemble on March 12.
Bangor New Music Festival runs until March 14.
