Christmas is always a wonderful time of year but have you ever considered enjoying it overseas? There is a growing market in magical Christmas destinations where you experience this festive time in a whole new light, but also escape the hustle and bustle of home. Spain is a frequent favourite and there are plenty of options for that perfect Christmas break.

One option is to experience a city at Christmas and all of its cultural eccentricities that are highlighted during the season. With accessible and affordable flights to Barcelona, the Catalan capital is an amazing place to spend Christmas, and you can visit La Sagrada Familia and see one of the world's most beautiful Cathedral's at Christmas, or simply browse the Christmas stalls on Las Ramblas and experience traditional Spanish Christmas festivities. Nocha Buena is a special Christmas Eve meal in Spanish culture, with a dish of fresh seafood from Barcelona harbour followed by a bowl of hot, homemade soup.

Spain does mean sun and some choose to head for the Costa del Sol at Christmas, for the chance to spend time on the beaches along with enjoying a visit from Santa Claus! The Costa Del Sol is a favourite for families as there's the chance to get the most from Christmas, but without any of our cold UK weather.

Seasonal Skiing
Skiing is another popular Christmas holiday option, and the ski destination of Arinsal in Andorra proves that you really can experience it all in Spain. As well as all the usual Christmas decorations, imagine yourself surrounded by an idyllic Christmas setting of pine forests and deep snow. Watch for special events in the resorts, as well as traditional Spanish Christmas celebrations or Carol Services at the English speaking church of La Massana.

Another Andorran Ski option is Pas de la Casa in the large Grandvalira ski area, on the French border. Here you have access to 192km of piste with everything from gentle beginners’ slopes, to complex red and black runs to enjoy. Snowboarders can enjoy a board park and half pipe, and like Arinsal the resort also has excellent après ski and the mix of Christmas and great venues is a recipe for great fun.
