DISCO fever hit Rhyl high street as locals and visitors put on their dancing shoes to celebrate the start of the summer holidays with a dose of classic live music from the 1970s and '80s.

Rhyl Town Council’s latest free event, Retro Rhyl, hit all the right notes, with husband-and-wife duo Paul and Jodie Doody singing hits from Grease, tribute band Echo Beach performing '80s hits, and Rhyl’s own Glenn Mitchell, frontman of Beatles tribute act The Cavernites, staging a street disco.

Rhyl mayor Cllr Win Mullen-James, who joined the dancing queens and disco divas for the event, said: “Retro Rhyl was the opener for a summer of great events in the town and everyone who came enjoyed the nostalgia of music from the 70s and 80s.

“Alongside our own events, the town council is supporting others including Denbighshire County Council’s music festival in August which will see Heather Small (former singer with '90s dance music band M People) performing at the Events Arena.

“Rhyl also has a continental food market to look forward to and the much-loved air show at the end of August.

"There’s something for everyone over the summer months. Rhyl is a hive of activity with much to look forward to.”
