An award winning male voice choir will be celebrating the service of Ruthin's mayor with a grand concert later this month.

To herald the end of Cllr Jim Bryan's tenure this May, the mayor is holding a concert with Cor Godre’r Aran at Theatr John Ambrose to raise funds for the youth groups of Ruthin.

Cllr Bryan said: "It has been an honour and a privilege to be Mayor for the past 12 months and the support I have received has been immense. I’m hoping that the concert will continue to add to Ruthin’s great sense of community spirit.

The concert is the final event in a series of fundraising events organised by the mayor, with proceeds from this event going to the Ruthin Appeal towards the National Urdd Eisteddfod, to be held in Denbighshire in 2020.

The choir, from Llanuwchllyn near Bala, have performed at The Royal Albert Hall and have toured extensively in Scotland, Ireland, Portugal as well as three visits to Canada and America, eight tours of Australia with visits to New Zealand, Tasmania, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Côr Godre’r Aran has successfully competed at National and International levels and won principal awards at the National Eisteddfod of Wales and four male voice championships at the International Eisteddfod at Llangollen.

The choir will be joined by the Denbighshire Youth Brass Band, a prize-winning band that gained a Gold Award in the National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britain in April 2014 and is part of the Denbighshire Music Co-operative.

Cllr Bryan added: "I’m hoping that the concert will be a great success to raise funds for these very worthwhile Ruthin groups and causes.

"I wish to thank everyone who has helped me in the past year, particularly the town clerk and my fellow councillors, and of course the people of Ruthin."

The mayor of Ruthin's final concert will take place on Saturday, April 28 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £10 and are available from Siop Elfair in Ruthin, by calling 01824 702575 or on the door .
